How Will took a stand… by sitting down

Back in November, Arkansas native and 10-year-old Will Phillips made headlines when he refused to stand up for the pledge of allegiance in school. His reason? He didn’t want to pledge allegiance to a country where discrimination against the gay community still exists, and where “liberty and justice” does not “exist for all.”

Lesbian teen sues to force school to hold prom
Instead of letting a lesbian couple go to the prom, a Mississippi school opted to cancel the dance altogether. Now the American Civil Liberties Union is stepping in on behalf of 18-year-old Constance McMillen.
McMillen never expected the school to react as it did. Afterall, the April 2nd prom is only days away and so much money had already been spent. But when the ACLU demanded that officials change a discriminatory policy banning same-sex prom dates, the school went ahead and called off the prom.

On Tuesday, D.C. joined five states in allowing gay couples to marry. Over 150 couples applied for licenses last week, and today they stood on line to be wed.
The same sex marriage law was passed in December, despite countless attempts to stop it. In so doing, D.C. joins the ranks of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, and New Hampshire as the only places in the country where same-sex couples can marry.
Congrats to all the new married couples. It looks like all of the gay rights activism is really paying off!
