Project Reuse

Doraville is a growing community with a growing number of immigrant and refugee families. The area is very diverse with many Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese and Mexican Americans. Our goal is to bring all of these diverse people together to bring awareness to the global issue of preserving our environment. The preservation of our Earth is a cause that crosses all lines of color, race, ethnicity, religion and culture. Doraville is an area that doesn't have many recycling centers or environmental preservation or conservation campaigns.

Environmental Education Through Schools

I am a Peace Corps Volunteer in Trusesti, Romania teaching at a K-8th school. I am searching for help with a project to increase awareness and education about the environment.

In my community, streets and sewage systems are filled with garbage, plastic is overused then burned and recycling is not a common practice. Even today the effects of an industrial communist regime can be seen by the low priority given to the environment and lack of understanding the consequences of ones actions in relation to the environment.

Kids are Recycling!

Kids at Willow Elementary School in Alaska are choosing to Recycle! There is currently no recycling program in Willow, Alaska. The nearest Recycling Center is almost 50 miles away! We are trying to get bins in all the classrooms and businesses around town! Having bins conveniently located will make recycling much easier for students, teachers and community members. The bins will also make it easier to transport the recyclables. Recycling is an easy choice, so we want to make recycling easy!

Greene Machine

Join the Scene with the Greene Machine... cause the Greene Machine will pick it CLEAN!

It's time we make Greene County GREEN again! While taking a walk in our beautiful rural area... I noticed trash everywhere! How did our community ever get so trashed? I decided that all that needed to be done was for someone to start picking it up. We can't wait any longer not just here in our small community but everywhere. We need to unite together and dream of clean scene!

Who: 6th - 8th graders
What: Pick up trash and recycle it and write articles related to the Greene Machine.

Tag a Tree for Life

Last year I completed a report for my teacher about the effects of deforestation on the world. I was absolutely shocked at how harmful this was and I knew I had to do something to try to change this. I brainstormed with my mom and some other kids about ways to make a difference. We started making items that are sold to raise money to plant trees. The idea really took off and I realized how many people had no idea that our precious forests were being destroyed and how it was changing the Earth in so many ways. I helped create a kit to help teachers teach other kids about this issue.

Fair Trade Café

My friends and I have put together an Environmental Group at our school. Some of our projects are making our school district an idle-free zone, creating a school garden, recycling, and raising advocacy about environmental issues in our school and community. Our main focus is currently the Fair Trade Cafe. We are in partnership with a local fair trade coffee company that supports small scale farmers in Tanzania, and Bolivia. We are also selling fair trade chocolate bars, hot chocolate, and using fair trade cane sugar at our cafe, as well as buttons and bumpers stickers.
