Gardens and Recycling

Save Our School and Planet!!! S.O.S.P’s mission is to try and save the environment, save the school, and create awareness about environmental issues. One way we plan to accomplish our mission is to make our school more environmental by planting trees and flowers around our local area (our school for example). Planting trees in your community really is one of the best things you can do for your environment- and the planet!

Water conservation and utilization project

The problems that bad irrigation can cause are flooding of the school for example, the flooding of Ms. Mead’s room and the office. It can also destroy our flowers and plants and cause water damage. Standing water and wet materials are a breeding ground for microorganisms, including bacteria and mold.

Converting One Man's Trash Into Another Man's Hope

As a frequent attendant of the local 24 Hour Fitness Gyms, I noticed that the bottles and cans frequently consumed by the fitness enthusiasts were always being thrown away inside the regular trash. However, with such a strong message in the community to recycle, I felt that it was necessary to make a change for both the environment and the world. In California, a CRV tax is placed on every single beverage container purchased. However, there are many recycling stations were the CRV can be redeemed, with a proceed of $.05 for containers less than 24 oz.

Ecosystem Management

We take care of our local ecosystems and clean up our areas of the enviroment and we also teach people and show them how to properly recycle and dispose of certain products. We would like to get this grant to help us with cleaning up our area and the teaching of recycling we would also like some of it to go towards supporting a sandcat exhibit at our local zoo. OK Green Project Documentary

One of the most influential ways to make a lasting impression is through visual aid. This is why my friends and I would like to make a documentary to promote awareness within our community. Awareness of what? Awareness of our addiction to foreign oil and the pollution it creates. The resources we are abusing. The plastic bottles we consume that are now located in a trash can, or even worse, on the side of the road. We will capture, on film, the problems caused by not recycling. The problems caused by using fossil fuels as a main energy source.

Join our Global Magazine Recycling Project for Literacy

Do you love magazines? Help us get magazines into the hands, homes, and hearts of children learning to read to succeed. Volunteers are needed to set up a KinderHarvest magazine recycling project in your community. The KinderHarvest team will collect recycled magazines from consumers and businesses and deliver them to new readers - children and families who want to learn and love to read. MagazineLiteracy.org is the first and only global, magazine industry-wide literacy project for children and families.

Recycled Fashion's

My communications class was given the task of doing 5 projects that would help others rather than ourselves. My partner and I came up with the idea of doing a documentary on recycled fashions. We plan to compare and contrast clothes that are home-made rather than mass produced, and hopefully make people more aware of problems like sweat shops and just how much they actually waste among other things. Although we are looking forward and encorage everyone to do something like this, sometimes it's hard to find people who are willing to participate.

THE GREEN KING ORGANIZATION

Directly, I am attempting to solve the trash crisis in my school and community. Indirectly, on a grander scale through hard work, I am trying to save the planet. I want to make sure there IS someplace to work in the future. That we will all still be able to go outside to play. That we have nice clean air and water.

Greener School Day at Tamarac Secondary School

The Tamarac High School National Honor Society has chosen to make our entire campus a more environmentally friendly place. Exactly one week after Earth Day (April 29th), the National Honor Society will host a Greener School Day for grades K-12 at the Brunswick CSD campus. On Greener School Day the National Honor Society (in conjunction with Tamarac’s Student Senate, Middle School Student Senate, National Junior Honor Society, Biology Club, and Key Club) plans to “take over” our school for six full periods.

Make Green Happen!

Make Green Happen! is a recycling group that is going to educate the community about recycling. We believe that us teenagers and children are the future, but we also believe that we need a stable future with a stable environment. The world is crumbling down to pieces, and we should do something about it. Every small action counts, and does make a difference. We will start recycling at our local schools, and cleaning up the community's parks and schools with eco-friendly equipment. The group will start out by putting recycling bins at the school's cafeteria, classrooms, and hallways.
