Our community is known around the world as a top polluter. We are home to several factories, as well as the Y-12 and K-25 plants that helped during WWII. While our community has in place a fair recycling program, it is not doing near enough to change. We are trying to create a more convenient program and show our community that recycling can be easy, convenient, and should become a habit.

Doraville is a growing community with a growing number of immigrant and refugee families. The area is very diverse with many Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese and Mexican Americans. Our goal is to bring all of these diverse people together to bring awareness to the global issue of preserving our environment. The preservation of our Earth is a cause that crosses all lines of color, race, ethnicity, religion and culture. Doraville is an area that doesn't have many recycling centers or environmental preservation or conservation campaigns.

The Center for Urban about Sustainable Agriculture is proud to launch it's new Waste Wise Farmers Market. In an effort green the market, we're introducing custom-made Waste Wise stations and informational displays. To ensure every can, plate, fork and crumb makes it to the right place, we'll need a team of volunteer monitors each week. As a Waste Wise station monitor, not only will you help divert tons of resources from a landfill, you'll also help educate thousands of shoppers about being waste wise-- without getting dirty!

Kids at Willow Elementary School in Alaska are choosing to Recycle! There is currently no recycling program in Willow, Alaska. The nearest Recycling Center is almost 50 miles away! We are trying to get bins in all the classrooms and businesses around town! Having bins conveniently located will make recycling much easier for students, teachers and community members. The bins will also make it easier to transport the recyclables. Recycling is an easy choice, so we want to make recycling easy!

I live in a small community that is divided. One half has the choice to recycle free of charge. On the other half, they must pay a fee. Most middle to lower class families don't want to pay extra for something they don't feel so passionate about, so they just throw their recyclable materials in the trash. I want to abolish the fees to recycle in our community and help people understand that their small part truly makes a difference in the grand scheme of things.

Schools teach students and students do a lot of writing, so they use a lot of paper. Here is an idea for anyone who wants to get active in helping the environment. Organize with your school to recycle paper, put a box in every classroom for paper only. Work with a local paper recycling center to see if arrangements can be made for someone to take the paper for it to be recycled. Tons of paper is used in schools across the country every week, save trees and recycle at your school.

Northeast High did not have a recycling program at the school, so the Northeast Ecology club contacted the Recycling department of Broward and bought bins and placed them around the school. Every Tuesday and Thursday, volunteers go around to collect the bins, and take them to the recycling bins, where they are picked up Wednesdays and Fridays. Our next steps are to go to the elementary school down the street, and try to get a recycling program started there, and educate them about recycling and environment. Our club site: http://www.freewebs.com/hug_a_tree1
