FBI Report: Hate crimes down
Crimes against gay men and women has surged but overall hate crime incidents decreased last year, says an FBI report. The decline was driven by decreases in crimes driven by race and religion.

Earlier this week, a disturbing incident occurred at Parkway West Middle School in Chesterfield, Missouri. This year, sixth grade students started a practice known as “spirit” or “camaraderie” days, instituting days like “Hug a Friend Day” or “High Five Day.”

Aid worker killed in Afghanistan
A foreign aid worker, Gayle Williams, was killed in Kabul, Afghanistan today, after being shot while walking to work. Williams was a British and South African citizen and worked for SERVE Afghanistan (Serving Emergency Relief and Vocational Enterprise), a Christian charity that helps the disabled. SERVE employs 450 Afghans and Williams was one of 23 foreigners helping the disabled people of Afghanistan. The Taliban, a group of Islamic insurgents, claimed responsibility for her death, claiming she was killed for preaching Christianity.

Since the beginning of his campaign, rumors about Obama’s secret Muslim background have been plaguing him. His campaign has been quick to deny these allegations, and campaign volunteers went so far as to bar two Muslim women from sitting behind the podium, at a rally in June, so they wouldn’t be photographed with Obama.
