Amangwe Village is a Non-Government Operation, based in KwamBonambi, South Africa. The Amangwe VIllage project includes a self-sustainable garden education course, an on-grounds TB and HIV hospital, a day school and feeding program for children, and more. I am a Texas citizen that lived at Amangwe Village from July 2006- December 2006. At the time I arrived, there was a room with 4 computers, all with internet access. None of these computers were being used as no one really knew how to use them. I took it upon myself to create an educational system, teaching workers and residents computer skills, to improve their lives and chances of a better future. While I was there, I took on 10 students, teaching basic typing and spreadsheet skills. We played games and also learned some simple e-mail and internet skills. Since my return home, a Peace Corps volunteer from Detroit has continued what I started. I have sent money to the project which has paid for classes for up to a year for students that have no way of paying the fees set by the Amangwe Village Project. This is a very positive and important project that I hope to see live on for a long time.

Youth Inspiring Action is a non-profit organization dedicated to youth networking to help each other organize and initiate projects.

This project, Leadership 8.5 is for eighth grade students in the summer before grade nine to develop some leadership skills (and build on ones they would have learned in Leadership 7-8 if they were a part of that program), to meet and bond with some mentors from local high schools, and have some fun in a safe, friendly environment in those summer days when there isn't much to do.

Out-trips will be taken as a part of the program to have fun, to bond with the mentoring students of higher grades, and to build on the skills developed in the leadership component of the program.

Leadership 8.5 will be run at Strathcona Community Center, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
