Iraqi Hope By TakePride

Generation Iraq ----- Generation Iraq is one of the few Western charities still operating in Iraq. It was founded in 2006 by a remarkable woman named Tamara Quinn. Tamara is an Iraqi-American who almost immediately after the fall of Baghdad got on a plane and traveled to Iraq for the first time in 30 years to see if she could help Iraqis recover from the war and decades of oppression under Saddam Hussein. While there, Tamara co-founded a women’s rights organization, worked with the Coalition Provisional Authority, and over time, developed a special interest in assisting Iraqi children.

A different international charity that works directly with children is chosen in a different part of the world each year.

Screaming For The Silenced

We are trying to raise money to help benefit Darfur. We would love to see the wars and mass killings stop in Sudan. We want the children there to live to see the next year, without fear of the Janjaweed.

Spread The Love

We are trying to raise money for the American Cancer Society, and help to find a cure. Our community is full of people diagnosed with cancer, so by supporting them, we put a smile on their face. All the money is donated to the Cancer Society, and our charity is non-profit. We're hoping this will support cancer research, and that there is a cure found in the near future.

Teen Summer Service Project

This, the first, chapter of TSSP, would be in Baton Rouge, LA. Service projects would range from Random Acts of Kindness (RAK, see below) to fundraising to awareness campaigns to hands-on service. Causes would be decided by members on a weekly basis.

Teens Organizing and Giving Aid (T.O,G.A.)

A party was held, and to get in, you had to doate 2 hygeine items. these were later placed into bags, that were decorated, with soothing pictures and quotes. we then took these bags to a place called the refug house. the refuge house is a temporary shelter for foster children. the kids' faces were so filled with hope and joy, and i was so excited. i felt a sense of accomplishment and hopefully making the children feel a little more welcome at the home. but, it didn't stop there. the refuge house still needed our help. they needed another office, so they were building one in San Antonio, Tx.

Play For The Planet

I would like to start a sand volleyball tournament and cook out at the Band Shelter on 23rd Street in Bettendorf, Iowa this summer. There are two courts there, so we could have two pools of teams playing at once. The champion form each bracket would play in the end. ALL MONEY EARNED WOULD GO INTO BUYING TREES, which would be planted around the city. I am going to try to see if Wallaces Garden Center (or some other local garden center) will sell us trees for a discounted price. If possible, I also would like to hold a barbeque for any hungry people nearby.

City of Milpitas Talent Show: "Milpitas' Got Talent"

The Milpitas Youth Advisory Commission presents the City of Milpitas Talent show, "Milpitas' Got Talent." This city-wide talent show hopes to bring together the youth of Milpitas on a common ground, self-expression through art. All the youth of the city ranging from ages 12-21 are encouraged to audition to show off their talents in a friendly yet competitive competition for $100. Acts will consist of bands, dance groups, hip-hop groups, singers, acoustic music groups, and solo instrumentals. All ticket sale proceeds will go to our charity of choice, Child Advocates of Silicon Valley.

Nerdapalooza 2008

Nerdapalooza 2008 NerdCorps/Nerdapalooza has teamed up with national charity Child's Play to present Nerdapalooza 2008, the premiere nerd music event of the year. Sponsored in part by Troma Films (Class of Nuke'Em High, The Toxic Avenger) and A Comic Shop, Nerdapalooza will host over thirty-three nerdcore hip-hop and rock bands during Fourth of July weekend in Orlando. This is likely to be a significant media event, as interest in Nerdcore has never been higher, with the recent release of the film "Nerdcore Rising" at South By SouthWest, and the pending release of "Nerdcore for Life"
