BUSINESS INVESTORS & PROPRIETORS

My interests have always rested in the business field; however, it is difficult for me not to be passionate over contributing to the underprivileged or society in general. After a year in a community college I became aware of how many low-income and international students were unable to easily obtain fundamental information about how to protect their financial future or their current assets with ease. Many of these individuals were also being consistently exposed to job opportunities that required large investments while offering absolutely no return.

Instrumental in Developing Young Musicians

The Sound of Silence in California Schools “Our schools tend to refine intellects but neglect to discipline emotions. For anyone to grow up complete, music is imperative”– Paul Harvey: Broadcaster/Commentator. When you validate the imagination of a child something amazing happens. Low self esteem disappears, and collaboration builds team work. The impact is not only from the music curriculum- it is the instilled wonder, playfulness, and imagination the arts build to help students find importance in society.

Flag, You're It!

I started a flag football program for in my community for girls my age to try to eliminate behavior problems such as fighting and bullying at school. I had been noticing a general feeling of being unhappy in some of my friends at school. I was also noticing a lot of arguing, name calling, bullying and sometimes even fighting among some of the girls. In our very rural area, we did not have a lot of outside activities to keep us occupied in or out of school. We had the school's sponsored programs such as basketball and cheerleading. However that only included a limited few, not all of us.

Shred Shed

My project started when my band was rehearsing one evening: As usual, all of my friends came to my warehouse I rented to hear the band play. We called this little haven the "Shed Shed"; It was a safe place for my friends to be after school and a good place to have a jam room. After this particular practice, my friend Alexis asked if I could teach her how to play the drums. I taught her the basics and sure enough, she was a natural. I told her [jokingly] that if she kept up playing like that, she'd end up replacing me in the band. I never had seen her smile that big.

HUGS- Helping Us Grow Strong

HUGS Helping Us Grow Strong was started by a group of friends at a lower income high school, with the dreams of motivating female teens ages 13-17. That are challenge by there environment as a result they act out in school to express what's going in their lives and in their homes. The truth is they just need a little guidance from their peers. We designed this program because I was one of these female teens. I had so many problems going on at home; that I expressed my anger at school.

The Global Mountain Fund

Source: http://www.mountainfund.org The Facts: The world's mountains cover about one-fourth of the planet's land surface and are home to 10 percent of its population. They are a sanctuary for an extraordinary web of plant and animal life and a source of water for all of the world's major rivers. Yet mountain people, the guardians of these valuable mountain resources, are among the world's poorest, hungriest and most marginalized populations.

Gay-Straight Alliance

We're struggling for our student group to meet in our high school. This group helps stop and show people how discrimination can harm people even when it's just joking around. Our current website is at www.ohsgsa.org. There are many of these groups nationwide but still its not nearly enough. We're going to be participating in a few activities this year and in the years to come along with other GSA's nationwide. We're helping to change our community's view of LGBT and straight ally youth, one student at a time.
