Girls Lead! (previously Girls' Economic Power Day) is targeted towards teen girls in order that they may learn life skills not taught in the classroom. Participants attend informative and inspiring workshops developed and lead by teen girls on topics such as fearless speaking, negotiation skills, career options, budgeting, investing, teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, entrepreneurship, how to get a job, stereotypes and much more. Teen Moxie believes young women first need to be comfortable with themselves before they can truly be successful at gaining economic power. Through self-esteem and confidence building activities, teen girls will be enabled to use their newly acquired skills to pursue their dreams. In addition, a keynote speaker will be present to speak on life experiences to encourage girls to set high goals for themselves and to persevere for what they want.

Help launch www.TeenAmbition.org, the online magazine for people who have dreams, goals, and a desire to make a difference. TeenAmbition provides a forum for young writers, business owners, and community leaders to share their stories.

This project was started to help young adults improve their financial literacy. Anyone can learn about money, business, and the economy. These topics impact everyone’s lives, yet few people take the time to understand them. A fundamental knowledge of these issues can make it much easier to succeed in almost any venture.

Mission
Westminster Entrepreneurship Club is dedicated to increase its member’s awareness of emerging global socio-economic issues; build an open-minded and tolerant student community; motivate and empower Westminster College students to continue their professional business activities; and lead by ethical values, which could contribute to the development of a sustainable global community.

Vision
Westminster Entrepreneurship Club is student “think tank” for creative business ideas. The club’s strategy involves the following steps:

• Challenge, and expand members perception of Global Entrepreneurship;
• Involve members in Social Entrepreneurship activities, and strengthened their business ethics, social responsibility, and environmental conscious;
• Compliment Gore School of Business curriculum, and provide members with open business environment for discussion of innovative entrepreneurial ideas;
• Serve as business incubator for members to plan, assemble, and implement their new business ideas;
• Organize and facilitate workshops, lectures, and competitions designed to provide members with better understanding of the global economic and political environment for establishing new enterprises;
• Initiate dialogue between members and local entrepreneurs willing to mentor, and supervise the professional development of the business students;
• Promote networking between the club members and successful community entrepreneurs;
• Motivate members to volunteer their entrepreneurship skills to new local start-ups, and small companies;

Young entrepreneurs and leaders, this the opportunity of a lifetime!

The Baltimore Renaissance Foundation is a nonprofit organization sponsoring a social entrepreneurship incubator for young people ages 16-24. Our flagship program, SPDI (Student Professional Development Initiative), helps students start a community business venture in their neighborhood.

SPDI is a hands-on, interactive program where young people become real-life CEOs. Students in the program develop a business concept that serves a need in their community, develop a budget and business plan, and create advertising campaigns, prepare press releases, give presentations for potential benefactors and investors, and become fully engaged in the real-life responsibilities of an organizational leader.

Students in SPDI create a real, working business venture. This is not a simulation or a business plan writing seminar. The Foundation brings in local business executives to train our students how to be successful entrepreneurs. We teach leadership and management skills, grantwriting, basic accounting, and business communication.

At The Baltimore Renaissance Foundation, we don't just talk about leadership, we practice it and make a real difference in our communities. Our student entrepreneurs leave the six-month program as the president or executive director of their own organizations.

EYE (Engaging Youth Entrepreneurs) for Change is an organization dedicated to making sure youth ages 13-25 have the opportunity to develop an entrepreneurial attitude, high financail IQ, and leadership skills. We offer three main services:

EYE for Change Conference: an annual youth entrepreneurship conference that encourages youth and those working with youth to engage in entrepreneurial skill building, financial literacy, and leadership skills. April 3, 2008

EGTS Tour: a traveling tour that features an interactive address by an authentic entrepreneur, entrepreneurship competition, lunch and access to resources for students to get their businesses started.

EYE Societies: creating a network of youth entrepreneurs who pursue entrepreneurship as a career option, employ entrepreneurial concepts to remain competitive in the workforce, and utilize entrepreneurship as a vehicle for change in their respective communities.

EYE for Change also has a radio and TV show entitled EYERadio and EYETV. EYERadio brings together youth entrepreneurs to talk about what’s hot in youth entrepreneurship and business that’s shaping the world. In addition, EYERadio focuses on innovative business ideas, entrepreneurship as a new career option and using youth businesses to help shape and mold communities.

EYETV is hosted by motivational speaker Quinn Conyers of Speak2Society, LLC. The show features an interactive exchange between the host, youth and seasoned entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs showcase their products, share and discuss their challenges, and inspire their peers to be dynamic business leaders. The show will uncover the youth's opinions on entrepreneurship and how to turn an idea into a profitable business.

The inspiration for Hives for Lives was an incredible man named Michael Otto Houlahan. He was an intelligent, loving and beautiful man. Four years ago, at the age of 63 he passed away from the deadly disease of cancer. He was my grandfather. I was in the 6th grade when he died. Shortly after his death, my other grandparents came to visit my house. They had beehives that, at the time, were simply a hobby my sister and I shared with them. They were talking about how they didn’t know what we should do with all of the honey. My little sister Carly and I suggested we sell it for charity. All of our profits would go to the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer: to help those suffering, to prevent others from suffering, and to honor my grandfather. Hives for Lives is important to me because it helps keep my grandfather alive in my heart and in my memories. My little sister came up with the name and logo. So far we have donated over $22,000 to the American Cancer Society and are still going srong in our fourth year. We have been recognized as Pennsylvania's top two youth volunteers for the Community Spirit Awards, by the Barron Award for environmentalism, and even by the President himself (yeah, of the US!) in person! I feel like we are creating hope for the future and a way for kids like me to feel as if they make a difference.

Our efforts on Hives for Lives are broad. My sister and I are the founders and run the company, but we now have a lot of help from our friends. We now sell over 1,000 punds of honey a year, and could sell more honey and raise more bees if we had more help.

We hand harvest, spin, strain, bottle, cap, and label all of our honey. We make the lip balm and candles we sell. We email customers and those interested in helping. We give business presentations and go to business meetings; we speak at schools and hospitals. We handle website sales (www.hivesforlives.com and www.hivesforlives.org ) and update our site. We spread the word, finding ways to advertise and publicize Hives for Lives. We sell honey at events around our community. We make calls to hospital gift shops, food stores, kitchen shops and other retail stores to sell our products. I now also run the Hives for Lives Young Business Leaders club I started at my school. Hives for Lives both national and local and we have now sold in 17 states and two countries.

Gumball Capital is a Stanford-based nonprofit organization that inspires entrepreneurship for social impact using the idea of microfinance. Microlending, one part of microfinance, involves making small loans to the poor to help raise them out of poverty. We've found microfinance to be an inspiring method of poverty alleviation, and we want to engage college students across the country with microfinance as well. We're accomplishing this by launching the Gumball Challenge, a national microfinance-benefit competition. In the competition we loan out $27 (and 27 gumballs) to participating student teams on college campuses around the US. The student entrepreneurs then have one week to create value with the $27 and gumballs. They use the $27 and gumballs as inspiration, working with limited resources to generate revenue while raising awareness about microfinance. What they create is entirely up to them. They might start a catering service, or a gumball-inspired crafts business. And the tie to microfinance goes beyond the symbolic $27 loan; all revenue that student teams generate is placed in a permanent fund that makes loans to the working poor in developing countries. The beauty of the competition is its simplicity. No 20-page business plan. No 2-month application process. Just the competitor and his or her team, their $27 loan, and their brilliant ideas. This process, we hope, will inspire the ingenuity and creativity in every student entrepreneur. By engaging them in the small-loan fiscal model, and in turn educating them about microfinance, Gumball Capital provides a platform for student entrepreneurs to realize their ambitions while at the same time support the working poor around the world. The Young Entrepreneur Association (“YEA”)is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship at a high school level. By working in a collaborative environment, our members learn valuable skills such as task delegation, fund management, marketing and other essential skills needed to be successful in business. What separates Y.E.A. from other student organizations is our constructive members and innovative growth strategy. You can learn more about us and what we have done by going to http://www.yeaonline.com. Since our establishment in February 2007, Y.E.A. has seen a tremendous growth in members and popularity. In February, we started with only 20 members and a vision. Currently, Y.E.A. has over 50 members along with a waiting list. Our rapid growth in popularity is primarily due to our T-shirt fundraiser/advertisement, which was when 100 Tech students and faculty walked around the school with “yea baby” on their shirts. Our t-shirt campaign recently gave us publicity in the school newspaper, The Survey as well as the Tech Internet Radio Project (TIRP). Not only did we receive publicity throughout school, but membership applications skyrocketed. Our members include: the Senior Class President; President and Vice President of BTHSnews.org; President of BETA; Treasurer, Parliamentarian, Vice President, and Historian of the National Honor Society; Managing editor of The Survey, and more. As you can see, we have a strong influence throughout Brooklyn Tech. Along with practicing business skills, Y.E.A. prides itself on developing a strong network within Brooklyn Tech's Alumni foundation. In fact, Dr. Mathew Mandery, the CEO of the Alumni Foundation, is on our board of directors and consistently refers us to Alumni that are interested in assisting us. He also arranged for us to give a presentation during Alumni reunion day which allowed us to establish relationships with many interested Alumni. The Young Entrepreneur Association also makes a strong effort to establish relationships with professionals to collaborate with student members. Recently, we met with the CEO of Vault.com, Mark Oldman, for a presentation where members learned valuable information about how to be a successful entrepreneur. -------->The most attention the Young Entrepreneur Association received this year was during our Student vs. Faculty charity basketball game. During this event we had over 450 students and teachers in attendance. This was the largest charity event in modern Tech history! In a single event, we raised over 1,000 for IMPACT, a non profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of autistic children. At this event we gave out promotional products for Modell’s Sporting Good’s and Lab Series for men. We also sold chicken wings that were donated from the popular restaurant, Buffalo Wild Wings.<----------- Next year, we plan on having another charity basketball game. We believe that this teaches our members social responsibility. Next year our charity game will be held to benefit students in Sierra Leone. Along with holding another charity basketball game, we are holding the first ever Career Day in Brooklyn Tech's history. We believe that this event will be huge to help students develop a sense of what career they want to pursue and hear from proven professionals. Along with these two major events, we are constantly going over business ideas and trying to improve what we call the "Tech Brand." After all, image is EVERYTHING! We plan on doing this by giving presentations to middle schools to tell students about Brooklyn Technical High School! Along with improving the schools brand we are constantly working to improving communication and relationships between the Alumni Foundation and current students. Next year, the Young Entrepreneur Association plans on expanding into Bronx Science and Stuyvesant High School and to tap into the quality talent available there. Our growth strategy is a reflection of our end goal; not to make Y.E.A. as big as possible, but to create a strong network of highly capable entrepreneurs that will eventually spread nationwide. 1998 BRICK Award winner Akilah Watkins co-founded and directed the I AM Corporation in Roosevelt, New York. The I AM Corporation teaches and promotes life skills, entrepreneurship and community service to low-income youth in Roosevelt, New York. The I AM Corporation's Youth Facility hosts a number of youth entrepreneurial ventures, including a landscaping business, a summer camp that serves over 150 children, and a workforce preparation program.
