In the United Sates alone, an estimated 2.7 million animals in shelters are euthanized each year. Many of these animals are killed due to minor problems that include age, weight, and treatable ailments. For my Senior Project, I was a foster parent to these animals, where I not only helped save their lives, but also made them eligible for adoption.
To start my project, I met with the Foster Coordinator, Katie Black, and had an interview with her and my mother to become a foster parent. I started bringing home animals in need the same day.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 1.8 million members and supporters, is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs.

Hi! My name is Rachael I am 22 years old from New Jersey and I am an Animal Rights Activist! I want to start a project to enlighten those without the knowledge about animal rights and help find a way to end animal cruelty in the process I will be keeping a journal on my journey of speaking to the community and peoples ideas to help educate people about animal welfare and why and how animal cruelty happens and what they can do to prevent it and report it when they see it happening. With this knowlegde not only will I make a difference but others can as well.

Doing something good in my eyes is fighting for our animals, our environment, and becoming healthy while doing it. I am an environmentalist and a vegetarian and I strive to make a difference while becoming healthier and helping my friends get to this point. I recycle, I fight for animal rights, and I stay healthy and in shape while doing it. This is what I want to do my paper on. Trying to spread my word.

The Pledge to Try Veg! Rally started in May 2006 as a bet between friends to see if those who ate meat could last even two days without consuming meat. We have decided to make this an annual event, and to focus more on other aspects to educate others. Vegetarianism is about more than just eating meat, it's a lifestyle choice concerning many hot issues, pollution (factory farms pollute water, air and land); conservation (forests are sometimes cut down to build farms, the land becomes exhausted from constant use.
