Change for Change is a campaign brought on by HERO: a UNA-USA campaign. The HERO campaign is in partnership with the USAID. It is an awareness building and fund raising initiative dedicated to providing comprehensive, school-based support to orphans and vulnerable children living in HIV/AIDS-affected communities in Africa. UNA-USA stands for the United Nations Association of the United States of America. It is a center for innovative programs to engage Americans in issues of global concern.

Apply "These Come from Trees" stickers to paper towel dispensers in public bathrooms (coffee shops, dorms, restaurants, gas stations), amd reduce paper towel consumption by 15%.

What this means is that in a typical coffee shop, a "These Come From Trees" sticker on the paper towel dispenser will save 100 lbs. of paper towels a year...roughly one "tree's" worth of paper. Amazing, isn't it?

Youth Power!

Butte County is located north of Sacramento. In my community, there is a high percentage of youths drop outs in high school and there is a very small fraction of those who attend college. My goal is to start a youth committee through our Hmong Cultural Center here in Oroville. I want to create a youth center that is easy going and open after school and on weekends so that youths can hang out, study, and create positive networks. In here also, I want to create a committee of youths for youths.

HIV

Human Immunodeficiency Virus attacks the human immune system, killing the cells that combat disease and infection.

AIDS

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is the extremely advanced stage of HIV. AIDS is not actually different from HIV, it is just HIV evolved to the point where the human immune system is vulnerable to over 25 different diseases called Opportunistic Infections (OI's).

What's interesting is that the more conservative, white evangelicals that attend their places of worship weekly are more likely to oppose gay marriage and gay rights.

In 2000, 189 nations came together and made a promise to eradicate extreme poverty, hunger and combat preventable diseases by 2015.

From this alliance, the Millennium Declaration, a document outlining eight specific goals to help the world realize this promise, was born.

Although we're certainly not there yet, everyone can do their part to help eradicate extreme poverty.

Drive Safe

I plan to have a week a my high school where I announce important and interesting fact about safe driving. Put flyers around the whole whole school about driving safe. At the end of the week I will give out key chains to all the students that pledge to drive safe.
