11 Halloween Costume Ideas

You know we here at DoSomething.org are all about causes and doing good, so how about making your costume this year reflect your ideals. Yes, some of them may be morbid and dark but they get the point across. Use the sharing tools above to get your friends involved too!
- Dress up as your favorite endangered animal (jaguar, humpback whale, American alligator?) and hang a sign around your neck saying: I may be extinct in a few years.
- Hang or glue cans to yourself to bring attention to recycling. If you’re especially costume savvy, make the Empire State Building out of cans and bottles somehow attached to your clothing and tell people who stare (and lots of people will stare) that every month Americans throw out enough recyclable glass bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper!
- Dress as a vampire and hang a bag of fake blood around your neck to bring attention to blood shortages around the country.
- Dress up as a flaming hot thermometer with global warming facts written next to each degree mark.
- Dress up as a bee to bring attention to the mysterious disappearance of honey bees. Carry a sign saying: Have you seen me? And when people ask, tell them about the problem.
- Dress up as fruit (think Fruit of the Loom costume) and tell people about the benefits of eating healthy and the growing epidemic of obesity in the U.S.
- Hang an enormous “No Smoking” sign around your neck. For added flare, carry a concealed bottle of dry ice and water – dry ice smokes when submerged in water. How’s that for effect?
- Don a giant cause ribbon – we’re thinking life-size, people - to support your cause. Pink is for breast cancer, red for HIV/AIDS, green for leukemia, purple for lupus… You get the picture.
- Dress up as a doctor and ask people if they have healthcare… Self explanatory we think.
- Dress as an American soldier and inform people of the record-breaking rates of suicide and mental problems among our soldiers.
- Dress as a teenage texting and driving victim, complete with bloody head wound, steering wheel and a cell phone in hand.
