Info on Sudan and Darfur

You've probably already heard a lot about Darfur and the horrible situation going on there. But do you know where it is? Here are some basic facts about Sudan, and specifically about the Darfur region, which is located in western Sudan.

Official languages: Arabic, English

Government: Authoritarian dictatorship

Darfur

Location: Darfur is a large region in western Sudan, bordering Chad, Libya, and C.A.R.

Area: 196,555 sq. mi., which is just over two-thirds the size of France.

Darfur’s population: 7.4 million

Economy: Based on subsistent agriculture, cereal, fruit, and tobacco production, livestock.
