Party Like It's 1985

Partner up with a restaurant or dining hall

Contact a well-known neighborhood restaurant or dining hall, and tell them the idea of an 80’s-themed party. Let them know it’s a fundraiser, and that the money raised from the entrance fees will all be going to a good cause. Be very polite, and make sure they realize that this fundraiser will be publicity for the restaurant as well.

Put the word out!

Use flyers, posters, and word of mouth to get the word out about this rocking 80’s party. When advertising, make sure to include information such as costume attire, entrance fee, date, time, and venue. The restaurant or dining hall can also hang up flyers for its regular customers.

Decorations and music are key!

Decorate the venue the afternoon of the dance party. As it is an 80’s themed party, remember to keep it flashy with neon colors, animal prints, and patterns. Make the music fit the mood—keep to artists who were of that era, such as Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, and Madonna.

Food and refreshments

This is where the start-up money kicks in—any party is incomplete without simple snacks and beverages. Speak to the dining hall to see if they want to provide the party-goers with finger foods and drinks. If not, then a single long table stocked with large bowls of snacks and paper cups of punch should be enough.

Organize!

It’s the day of the party—hopefully everybody on line looks good in their throw-back attire. Collect the entrance fee from them as they come in. Once the party starts and the venue is booming with old tunes, walk around and make sure everyone is having fun. Don’t let anyone stay seated!

Clean up time

After the party is over and everybody is trudging home exhausted, help the owners of the dining hall clean up. Show them a nice gesture, and be sure to express gratitude for all their cooperation and generosity.
