Pick a place
Know someone who owns a cool, interesting local business? Start with them! Or, just contact some places that people would be interested in learning about. Ask the owners if they would be willing to share a day with some customers and teach them about the ins-and-outs of the business
Peak people’s interest
Get people excited about it! Tell them what cool things they will learn and see. Hand out flyers or hang up posters. Are they aspiring chefs? Then the tour of the local Italian restaurant is great for them! Are they interested in working in retail, or do they want to open their own store some day? Then the boutique downtown that is offering a tour is an awesome opportunity for them! (Psst…food samples may be a great incentive, too!)
Figure out the details
Get the who-what-when-where-why’s down.
- Who can go?
- What will the tour show?
- When is it?
- Where is it?
- Why are you doing this?
- How much is it?
Give them visuals.
Put together an info sheet on the business or the industry that the business is in. People will love to read some interesting facts. See if the business will even give out coupons for the people who attend! Ask the owner what they will talk about and what the will show the people who sign up, so you can include that on your info sheet.
