There are many different factors that contribute to depression. Each of these increases the likelihood of depression, but it is more typically a combination that is most likely to lead to depression.
Biological Factors
The likelihood to develop depression, like other illnesses, often gets passed on from one generation to generation. Another biological factor is chemical imbalance, which can contribute to a higher likelihood of depression.
Personality Traits
There are many different personality traits that increase the likelihood of depression. These include low-self esteem, being pessimistic, and easily overwhelmed by stress.
Environmental Stresses
All different types of life circumstances can trigger depression. Everything from living in poverty, dealing with the death of a loved one, or illness can increase the likelihood of depression.
