The Problem

Many people here cannot afford even the most basic of birth control. In a struggle to keep their families together many women experience back to back pregnancies on average having 3 small children before the age of 22. With such large families and prevalent poverty these families must struggle to keep even the most basic of provisions in their homes. Many are homeless or live with their small children in houses made of tin without electricity or running water and without even the luxury of floors to protect their feet from the dirt foundation.

Plan of Action

I would like to initiate a country-wide program for the empowerment of women's rights through education and family planning awareness. I want to practice and expose women to their rights regarding pre-sexual birth control methods and to empower couples to plan their families as they see fit. I seek to bring awareness of choice through the allocation of condoms, birth control pills, and pre-natal vitamins, by dispensing them to local community clinics along with information in the form of flyers, brochures, pamphlets, a website, and educational videos. My goal is that adults, and teens alike, can make more informed and appropriate decisions to spur a better future for themselves and their children. This use of funds would slightly mirror the precedented efforts of institutions like Planned Parenthood, who inform and support local women in having individual rights to provide the best quality of life and care they can for their children and themselves.
