The Problem

There are many cases of insufficient school supplies in the U.S. public school system alone. This has lead to teachers using their own money, surmounting to $1.3 billion annually in total, to stock their classrooms with the basic things they need to teach. This doesn't account for insufficiencies in school supplies for underfunded schools globally, which is an issue we want to tackle in the future.

Plan of Action

We want to not only help students receive the materials they need academically, but teach them the importance of recycling used materials to make them into something new, and being there for someone in need when they might be having a bad day. Using recycled metal to make pendants and dog tags, we will engrave one side with the title of an inspirational poem and the other with a school name. The proceeds from selling these jewelry pieces will go towards purchasing school supplies and keeping the initiative alive. A website will act as a platform where people can read their poems and comment on them in a discussion forum with others who received the same poem. It will also allow purchasers of our jewelry to see how their school is doing and what kind of impact they made.
