Blanket our Nursing Home

This is something that the Oakland City-Columbia Township Public Library, Teen Advisory Committee came up with on their own. They had a visit to the local Nursing Home to get recipes for the Friends of the Library cookbook, they notice that alot of the residents used blankets over their laps to keep them warm. But alot of the residents had old, ratted, and torn blankets. They wanted to know if there was something they could do to brighten the residents day. They decided that they wanted to make fleece-tie blankets for them. It is something that we the teens can do by ourselves. There is no sewing involved. We can make such pretty blankets for them to have, stated one of the teens. The Teen Advisory Committee was formed due to the fact that our little town is lacking in the youth areas. Our household income is less than national coming in at around $28,000.00. Most of the children are living in households where the grandparents are raising their children's childrens. We wanted to create a place where they could do something useful of the community as well enjoy the company of other teens just like them. It has been a huge success with the teens joining.
