Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the largest one-day walk for breast cancer in the United States. Last year, 5,000 walkers came out to show their support at Sherwood Island in Westport, CT, and their 5k non-competitive walk alone raised $500,000 for the American Cancer Society’s programs of research, education, advocacy, and patient services in the area of breast cancer. This year’s local walks include:
• Westport, CT on Sunday, October 14, 2007
• Danbury, CT on Sunday, October 21, 2007
• Litchfield, CT on Sunday, October 21, 2007
Volunteering opportunities for this event are flexible both in intensity and in length of commitment. Any time or energy you have available is welcome – and will make a difference.
Volunteers are needed to help recruit new teams of walkers, contact past walkers, and promote the event by placing posters and brochures throughout the community. This group will meet monthly from July through the event.
Day of Event Volunteer
Volunteers are needed at the event each day to help with specific tasks, i.e. setting up tents, replenishing water and ice, hanging banners and signs, and cleaning up. These volunteers may work during any time frame they choose.
At different times during the year there is a great need for help with projects in our Wilton office. These tasks range in variety and in time commitment, including: stuffing large mailings, assembling packets, phone calls, labeling, and copying. Such volunteers are welcome at any time during office hours.
