Urban Promise

I am an volunteer Intern for UrbanPromise Toronto from September 2007 to August 2008. UrbanPromise Toronto is a registered Christian non-profit charitable organization that is dedicated to meeting the needs of children, youth, and their families in at-risk communities across the Greater Toronto Area. Specifically I work with the children's prgram [ages 5-10] in after-school programs where we help them with their homework, give them snack, sing songs, have a Bible lesson, play games, and do arts and crafts. We also take them on trips on the weekends; such as an outing to McDonalds, the park, the mall, pumpkin carving, etc. The after-school programs provide a safe place for the children to be during the hours of 4 pm - 6 pm, when it is most dangerous for them to be on the streets. These children are living in gang communities and are exposed to alot of violence, drug/alcohol abuse, sexual activity, and unhealthy lifestyles. I love being apart of making a difference in the lives of these children!
