A big environmental issue in our world is Global warming; which is a growing concern among the people. Along with my Girls inc. group we came up with the idea to minimize Global warming where we live, starting in our community. We came up with the idea to collect energy saving light bulbs and distribute them among homes, so each home can have at least one bulb with the purpose that these small changes will make a big difference in the fight against Global warming.
It was during our Girls Inc. teen council meeting which is a nonprofit youth organization to “inspire all girls to be Strong, Smart and bold”, we came up with the Global Warming idea within the community. Since home energy accounts for 21% of Americas Global warming pollution we decided to put this idea into play. Getting sponsors from private companies we could collect money to purchase these bulbs, as well of asking for donations from stores that provides the bulbs. With this plan we wanted to have each home in Greenwich change their normal bulb for a better energy saving compact fluorescents (CFs) bulb that lowers electricity and bills.
We researched companies that will provide sponsorship as well of hardware stores in the town for donations. I went to the Town Hall to get the number of homes in all Greenwich. We researched the cost of the CFs bulbs and were they are found.
The numbers of homes were soon overwhelming and it seemed to us that we wouldn’t be able to accomplish our goal of having each home install the one light bulb we would supply them. We then decided to start in small groups, separating our town in different sections and move one after the other. We encountered many problems along the way, this long term project seemed never ending. Hardware stores were not willing to donate bulbs although we had 2 or 3 contributors it was definitely not enough. We were a group of 10 young ladies trying to make a change and our efforts seemed useful but we never lost hope.
We came up with a great idea and our intentions came from the bottom of our hearts but it was a hard task. I learned that great ideas not always turn out the way you expected them to work. We decided to have this project saved for the long run and take it slow. My family and father were very proud of me for the intentions, he works with in the UN and he is currently working with the green gas emission reduction which is a similar idea to prevent Global warming from
