Tutoring Program at Shiloh Middle School. 40 high school volunteers recruited in 2006. They were paired with about 40 middle school students. Every volunteer signed up to volunteer for at least 30 minutes, twice a week. Tutors would either join the students in the classroom and assist them with their assignments or take them to the library and work with them one-on-one. Tutors worked with the students on simple math, science, language arts, or social studies skills. Most of the children in the program needed extra assistance in math. The school did not meet the AYP requirements for two years in a row, and I really wanted to change that.
