Myself and two of my friends are involved in the Francis J. Logan Foundation, which every year sends children from homes of substance abuse or HIV/AIDS to camp for two weeks. Alot of these kids come from low income neighborhoods that are just minutes away from my own house. At the camp they have therapists and take part in normal everyday sports activities to get them away from their homes for a while and help them to cope with their family situations. We loved this and wanted to figure out a way we could help. My two friends and I thought of making a side foundation which would help raise money to send these kids to camp so we encorporated as "Handz up for Kids." Our first fundraising event was a dinner and fashion show at the Crest Hollow Country Club by our house. We got stores and people to donate raffle prizes and their services so that we could use most of the profit to give to the children. In the end we raised $20,000 and after everything was paid for we were able to give the children a straight $13,000. That could send an enormous amount of kids to the Francis J. Logan Camp. We were so happy and are now planning another event. We also do candy bar sells and magazines.
