My name is Cailynn Smith. Last year, while serving as part of the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) in Kendallville, I had attended the first ever Indiana Youth Leadership Conference. During the conference we had the opportunity to hear several speakers, the last speaker was Justin Boudreau. He talked spoke of many things, but one that hit home with me was gratitude. He talked about recieving comments posted and calls, then how ever many calls recieved on his hotline and comments he recieved he would have to raise that much money for a certain organization. I was so moved by his speech and message to pay it forward that i suggested that the Kendallville MYAC conduct a Gratitude Week at our local highschool. My idea became action when last May of 2007, my local highschool got to hold its first ever Gratitude Week. At the end of the week, over 700 slips were collected and put on Justin's website (calling for gratitude.com). This coming May I hope to help expand Gratitude Week from our local highschool and into our local middle school. I believe that in this day andage of so many teens not appreciating what we have compared to people in other countries, that we should all take a moment to reflect and take the time to appreciate someone in our lives.
