Spend a few minutes before class explaining to a group how to recognize and purchase energy-efficient light bulbs.

  1. Stress the look of the bulb. Look for the ENERGY STAR when buying light bulbs and fixtures.
  2. Check if you need a specially designed bulb. Bulbs need to be specially marked for features like
    • dimmer switches
    • three-way switches
    • lighting timers
  3. Lead a change-out. With the permission of the school, host a day where students replace inefficient bulbs with ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs in a room (or mulitiple rooms).
