Hilary Duff’s days of being Lizzy Maguire may be over, but that hasn’t kept her away from the schoolyard! On August 15, Duff arrived in Bogota, Colombia for three days of meal giving to poor children in the city. Her work, which is on behalf of the “Blessings in a Backpack” program, includes giving out 3,000 bags of food to children who can then take the food home to their families on Fridays and have nutritious meals for the weekends. While in the city, Duff also plans to participate in a vaccination campaign.
"We've been working for four years feeding children over the weekends. They invited us to come here, and we got our first school in Bogota." Duff shared with Access Hollywood.
Duff is currently providing 6,000 meals a weekend in an elementary school in California. The “Blessings in a Backpack” program is serves 106 schools and 26,000 children in the U.S. and Canada.
As Duff told Fox Business, "Its amazing. Your feel rewarded....It really affects you.... You are giving back to communities in need- I get to see kids who are in need, and they are so happy.... There is NO reason that a kid should go hungry!"
