Jessica Simpson, who has experienced her share of scrutiny for her weight and physical appearance, was all smiles at the 2010 New York’s Operation Smile Annual Gala last weekend. Joining her in attendance were celebs including Nick Cannon and The City’s Olivia Palermo.

Jessica, who’s been involved with Operation Smile since 2003, walked the red carpet with a special guest: a little girl named Meena, an Operation Smile patient. Operation Smile is an organization that provides safe reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate, which leave them unable to eat, speak, socialize, or smile. More than 200,000 each year are born with such conditions.

Launching a new self-esteem initiative with the organization called “A Beautiful Me, Believe in Yourself, Change the World,” Jessica has vowed to improve the lives of young people and to serve as a role model in encouraging girls to feel good about themselves. “Trust me: I’ve been through it. I’ve had to travel from country to country but we can do it right here in America and find ourselves, believe in ourselves, and be who we are,” the singer said.

Join her and spread the word about the importance of having self-esteem. Read up on the facts about body image, and then take action to share your knowledge with others by creating a survey or producing a brochure about living with a healthy mindset!
