The Police announced today that they will play their last concert ever in New York this August.
But wait . . . Manhattan resident Sting and his bandmates have another gift for the Big Apple: $1 million that will go to planting trees (an amount the city will match), in conjunction with Mayor Bloomberg’s MillionTreesNYC group.
FYI: Trees help clean the air by reducing pollutants that cause repiratory diseases such as ashthma. Just last week, several of the boroughs' air quality were given failing grades by the American Lung Association, so the city really needed this present. Good going, guys!
And how cool is this: If you live in New York City, you can suggest locations for trees to be planted by clicking here.
Also, here's even more good news: The final concert will be a fundraiser for public arts programming Thirteen/WNET and WLIW New York. More details about the venue and date to come.
