Gossip Girl's "Queen B" Leighton Meester and legendary designer Vera Wang are using their love of fashion to help save lives. DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow donor center, is teaming up with Leighton and Vera to encourage people to "share the love" by registering as bone marrow donors.
Thousands of patients each day search the national registry in hopes of finding a bone marrow match. Unfortunately, 6 out of 10 patients do not receive a transplant because of a lack of donors. Now, everyone can share the love.
Starting on March 28th, customers purchasing Vera's Lovestruck fragrance will receive a free "share the love" T-shirt designed by Vera.
The campaign was inspired by 19-year-old leukemia survivor Kerri Mullen. Kerri is in full remission after receiving a bone marrow transplant that saved her life. Leighton and Kerri filmed a PSA urging people to join the fight against blood cancer.
“’Share the love’ is an altruistic idea of love - it’s about giving the gift of life to a stranger,” said Leighton. “You can register as a donor by going to GetSwabbed.org. It’s easy and the more people get swabbed and are willing to donate, the more lives we can save and that’s pretty incredible.”
