I am a third grade public school teacher in East Boston, MA. For the past two years, my school has adopted a local soldier that is deployed overseas. My school sends care packages, letters, notes and cards to the soldier. We also give presents to the family that is left behind, making their days brighter while their loved one is deployed. The students all learn about patriotism, love of America while we spend the year getting to know and love the soldier that we support. We have successfully completed this project for two years and want to continue this loving, worthwhile tradition.
When the soldier returns home, our school provides a welcome home ceremony, inviting local politicians to speak while singing patriotic songs. This is truly a worthwhile, wonderful experience for all people involved.
