While breast cancer and domestic abuse are in no way comparable, both take the lives of daughters, sisters, mothers, friends and sometimes even men. When you think about what the pink ribbon campaigns and the Komen Race for a Cure event have successfully accomplished for breast cancer awareness, research, advocacy, mobilization and support- it is truly remarkable and admirable. Imagine the social impact we will collectively have when we build a fraction of this kind of awareness for the purple ribbon and the hope and courage it symbolizes for survivors, victims and children of domestic abuse and domestic homicide. By throwing a Girls Night Out to Cut Out Domestic Abuse event on the same night across the country, we will fill a gap in long overdue mass cause marketing and awareness for domestic abuse.
