B.E.A.R. To Be Different

The Problem

Being a victim of “bullying” in the fifth and seventh grades, I have created a program, B.E.A.R. To Be Different, to raise awareness of this problem facing today’s youth. Recent studies report 39% of elementary age kids say they don’t feel safe at school, and 32% of parents fear for their child’s safety while at school.

Plan of Action

B.E.A.R. To Be Different involves classroom visits which include “Leroy,” a full-size companion stuffed animal bear who talks and humors the children. Leroy will be used to help the kids understand the importance of accepting each other equally and to be respectful to others in an amusing way.
