Building Community Through Global Currency

The Problem

It is well recognized within the environmental field that the current level of greenhouse gas emissions is unsustainable for our planet. Limiting the effects of human induced climate change is unquestionably one of the most important challenges confronting our generation. The goal of this project is to build a community of like-minded individuals working towards the common goal of reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the negative effect that the release of greenhouse gasses is having on the planet.

Plan of Action

Our project empowers individuals to reduce their emissions by providing a system of rewards for those who make beneficial behavior changes within their lives. Through a partnership with The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at The University of Vermont, it works to engage people within their community to counter-act feelings of isolation and being overwhelmed in the face of global climate challenges. Bold carbon neutrality goals set by various institutions such as colleges, need to be backed by equally innovative ideas that help meet those goals. This project encourages behavioral changes by developing a 10-ton carbon emission reduction plan with The Rubenstein School community. In a world where people are motivated by incentives, this community-based approach to carbon reduction helps people feel part of a larger, global effort.
