Collegiate 5K Challenge: Smile for Every Mile

The Problem

This upcoming spring, on March 29th, 2009, hundreds of students will run in a 5K event called ‘Collegiate 5K Challenge: Smile for Every Mile.’ This event is to raise awareness and funds for an incredible organization called Operation Smile to change the lives of dozens of children around the globe! It is headed by a group of undergraduate college students looking to make the world a better place.

Plan of Action

We are organizing the second annual 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk, scheduled to take place on March 28th, 2008 located at the newly designed Mt. Timpanogos Park up Provo Canyon, Utah. Our goal this upcoming year is to raise $10,000, which proceeds will be donated to Operation Smile. This sponsor-supported event became an annual benefit for Operation Smile. At the beginning of all of this, I never would have thought simple, ordinary college students could put together something that could raise over $5,000 for children in less developed countries that suffer from cleft lip or cleft palate. Young teenagers and adults can change the world, and that is exactly what we are trying to do with our race!

Project Updates

The Executive Committee has met already a couple times to get the 2009 Collegiate 5K Race planned early! We are excited to have new ideas to make it an even better race this upcoming year so that we can raise even more money for Operation Smile!
