Connecting pets with people, one website at a time.

The Problem

2 years ago, I had a realization. I realized that one of the main reasons pets are euthanized is that they are not a good fit for their owner. An older couple with a big dog. An outdoor-loving couple with a couch potato dog. They just are not happy with their pet, which could lead to turning them into the pound. The goal of my project is to reduce the number of dogs euthanized. 3-4 million pets are euthanized each year! That's just too many! I've always loved pets. (especially dogs) So, when I got an idea for a way to help save pet's lives, I ran to my parents and told them. They inspired me to take my idea and turn it into reality. I have always wanted to make a difference in the lives of pets and with this grant, I can.

Plan of Action

I created a website, www.fastpetmatch.org where people fill out a questionnaire describing their "perfect pet." I will then collaborate with people at their local animal shelter and work to find three pets that match their personality for FREE. If people had the pet they dreamed of, there would be much less owner surrenders to pounds. That would reduce the euthanization rate a lot. The impact of my website would be very big if I had the money to spread the idea. The only program similar to mine is ASPCA Meet Your Match. It categorizes dogs and cats with a color representing their personality.
