The Problem

I support our military by raising funds and merchandise for the troops stationed worldwide with my non-profit Dallas is Love (www.dallasislove.org). In the summer of 2004, my family and I went over to South Korea to visit family members. One day, we decided to go outside of an American military base, and we talked to several soldiers. As we spoke with them, my sister and I realized that they did not receive too much of the spotlight back home due to the main focus in Iraq. After arriving back in the States, our idea set in motion. My sister and I thought this was a genuine cause because we believe that every single soldier should be recognized for the sacrifices they make to secure our freedom. Within the past six years of operation, I have held numerous fundraisers throughout my community. I not only raised awareness for my organization, but also raised a tremendous amount of money and an amalgamation of merchandise through corporate sponsorships. Since its inception, Dallas is Love has raised over $350,000 in monetary and merchandise donations.

Plan of Action

Dallas is Love raises funds to convert in AAFES (Army and Air Force Exchange Service) gift cards for soldiers in all four branches of the military stationed worldwide. Dallas is Love gains support through private donations and corporate sponsorships. We are hoping 2010 is a big year with more support and our second annual September 11 golf tournament that we are planning. We will be sending out a number of donation letters and sponsorship requests to help us with fundraising efforts this year. Currently, we are raising money for wounded soldiers in Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. and Landstuhl, Germany. Dallas is Love needs all the support it can get.
