Early Literacy Volunteer

The Problem

I began working with the Early Literacy Network in July of last year. I was placed through AmeriCorps at this organization, and have since grown to love its mission and its goals. The Early Literacy Network was established in 2005 by The Children and Families Commission of Orange County. It has since then continued to trive, and now serves thousands of young children and their families every year. The goal of the ELN is to promote reading to children every day in order to build language and learning skills for life. Not only does the ELN hand books out to families to help build their libraries, but also speaks with parents and care givers about the importance of reading and literacy. Volunteers are placed in clinics across Orange County to read to children while they wait in perdiatrician waiting rooms as part of the Reach Out and Read program. This organization really is wonderful, so if you love working with children, enjoy reading, and believe in the importance of literacy, come join the ELN team...it doesnt take much to make a difference in the life of a child!!

Plan of Action

To recruit as many volunteers as I can so that we can expand the number of clinics, and this the number of families we impact.
