Official Project

The Problem

I am currently volunteering at a brand new community resource home titled the House of Hope. The House of Hope of Ocean County, Inc. is a non-profit, interfaith organization which assists individuals and families achieve and sustain self-sufficiency.             Our program is based on the belief that everyone needs sufficient money, relationships, and meaning in their lives to thrive. By carefully listening to the hopes, struggles and needs of those who are facing life challenges, we can support them and provide resources as they overcome obstacles and ultimately reach their goals. A team of mentors and allies share their knowledge and expertise and offer supportive care and the social capital needed to help those facing difficult life circumstances. We advocate for our neighbors in need by helping them connect with the resources within the community of faith and the many social service programs available in Ocean County. To respond to a high community need, the clergy of the Toms River area initiated the House of Hope of Ocean County Inc., a place through which our community could take ownership of the issues of economic hardship in our area and assist those in need by helping them build self-sufficiency, one family at a time. The House of Hope of OC is a community based initiative that offers mentoring, resources, and financial support for those in need. The House of Hope of Ocean County is financially supported by area churches and community agencies who pool their financial and human resources to reach out to those struggling to overcome economic adversity. Volunteers serve as: Mentors & friends, Employment resources and job coaches, Budget counselors, Receptionists, Resource specialists, Fund raising event planners, Web page designers, Speaker Bureau, and much more. The volunteers I am surrounded by are caring people helping their neighbors-in-need with life’s necessities from food to financial assistance and guidance to spiritual support. Being that we are a brand new organization and just getting off the ground, our financial reach is extremely limited. This grant would be such an immense help in our ability to continue facilitating those in our immediate and surrounding neighborhoods.
