Illini Service Dogs

The Problem

Many people are in need of service dogs to help assist with every day activities and utilize a dog's special skills. Unfortunately, it can take years to obtain a service dog and it can be very costly. On average, a service dog can cost $10,000-$25,000. The Illini Service Dogs work to fix this problem and provide service dogs to those in need free of charge and as soon as possible. The Illini Service Dogs feels there is a need to increase awareness and education on the disability community and culture as well. Our organization tries to raise awareness to our community to try and improve this problem.

Plan of Action

The Illini Service Dogs is a student-run organization located on University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign that was founded in 2010.Our organization fosters and trains service dogs from puppyhood to the time they are placed to an applicant. We work with our dogs for a year and half to two years before they are placed. In addition, our students gain knowledge about the disability culture through our organization and work to educate the public about those with disabilities and disability rights.
