When my best friend Katie and I came home from our freshman year at college we had a lot of time on our hands. My mom and a few of her friends have been training to walking the Michigan 60 mile Walk for the Cure. After a few weeks of training, my Aunt Eileen had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Katie and I decided to sell t-shirts to our community to raise money for Breast Cancer research. We live on an island in south-eastern Michigan, so our t-shirts said "Live on an island." We have now expanded to sweatshirts with the text "I live on an island 2,319 miles off the coast of California." We have raised over 3,000 for the Susan G. Komen Organization which donates money to Breast Cancer research. We have brought pride to our small community. Katie and I would like to expand our company to reach to people off of our island. Our new idea is to have t-shirts with the text "Great Lakes, great life."
