Katrina Book Drive

Official Dosomething.org Project

The Problem

After the devastation that occured after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana, i contacted an elementary schools in the area and asked them how i could be of any assistance to them all the way from Florida. The response i got from a Dwight D. Esienhower Elementary School was that they needed mostly books, and teachers supplies for their school library that was destroyed by the hurricane.

Plan of Action

In order to get to that point I had to make drop boxes for people to put their donations or books in local business that were participating and also make appearances at fundraisers to tell people about what i was trying to accomplish. With the help of all those involved the book drive was a total success providing 5,000 new books for the library, $1000 in teachers school supplies, and $500 in gift cards for the school.
