Locks-A-Thon

Official Dosomething.org Project

The Problem

We are campaigning for Locks of Love by collecting donations of hair from people in our school and community. Our goal is to raise as many inches of hair as possible to be donated from our school. "Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children." - Locks of Love

Plan of Action

Step 1: Campaign for Locks-A-Thon with posters, video, word of mouth, etc. Step 2: Collect names of people who wish to pledge their hair to our cause. Step 3: Host a "hair-raising" event, bringing in hair stylists from the community. Setp 4: Collect hair from our event and all other contributions to be donated from our school.

Project Updates

Our event made the front page of the local newspaper, The Berkshire Eagle! We are very excited that out groups efforts will be shared with the community. We want people to recognize how simple it can be to create opportunities for one person (or group) to help another. Here is a link to the article. http://www.berkshireeagle.com/ci_16765029?IADID=Search-www.berkshireeagl...

Our Project was a great success with a total number of 211 inches of hair cut from 23 participants. This project effected our whole school and some of our community. Throughout the day people stopped by to support our efforts towards cancer. Our group members learn the value and impact of community service.
