MLK Jr. Day of Service

The Problem

For the past 4 years, student volunteers from the Oxford Area High School have helped clean-up downtown Oxford. In numbers ranging from 20 one year to 110 another, we have picked up trash (paper, plastic, couches, vacuum cleaners, dead animals....), swept the sidewalks, planted flowers, cleaned windows, pulled name it. And each year, the kids do all the work. From planning the event to coordinating the volunteers, getting the food donations, everything. It is an exciting and fun day shared with the community. each year, businesses welcome our presence and dedication. This is only one of several projects our club completes every year. This year, we: 1. Raised $3000 for Make-a-Wish to send 5-year old Madison to Disney World. 2. Raised $400 for Tornado Relief in Mississippi 3. Raised $4000 for Heifer International 4. Raised $2000 for Relay-for-Life 5. Helped our elderly neighbors do yard work for Make A Difference Day 6. Adopted a grandparent and visited twice a month during the school year. 7. Had over 80 children participate in the 3rd Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service. See more here:
