Personal Aquaponics

The Problem

I am trying to bring interest into aquaponics, the combination of hydroponics and aquaculture, into my college community. Hydroponics is the growing of plants without soil by using a nutrient solution and aquaculture is the raising of fish like livestock. Aquaponics combines them by having the fish waste be used as the fertilizer for the plants, cycling the water between them. It is an alternative form of agriculture that is completely organic, uses less input, and produces food better than soil crops or livestock ranching alone.

Plan of Action

Develop an organization to promote the use of aquaponics, called Personal Aquaponics. It would involve having an aquaponic system set up, with a blog of what's happening to show how it works. Do demonstrations to the university and nearby schools on how they can benefit from aquaponics.
