phillyCHANGE (Community Helping A New Generation Excel)

The Problem

phillyCHANGE was founded in response to the times; The murder rate was extremely high, and Philadelphia was on its way to becoming the murder capital of the country. The public school system was also not in good condition, in many schools there were not enough teachers to teach the students, and the children were way behind other children in the state of Pennsylvania and in the country. The children in the city of Philadelphia were in dire need of a change, and not too many people were trying to do any or nothing to help, so a couple of college friends got together and found phillyCHANGE Inc. Community Helping a New Generation Excel.

Plan of Action

A team was put together of individuals who are motivated to help change the mindsets of students in the Philadelphia area. All members of phillyCHANGE are college graduates or current college students. We then researched and implemented the steps of getting incorporated by the state of Pennsylvania as a non-profit organization. Our next step was to team up with two programs in order to help us expand and grow by becoming a program partner with the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition making us a 501© 3 tax exempt organization, as well as partnering with the Penn State University Upward Bound Math & Science Program to start our after school program.
