Ronald McDonald Pop Tab Collection

The Problem

Many families travel far from home to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. Often, it can be a long time to be away from home, or to divide a family. And, for children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having their mom and dad close by for love and support.

Plan of Action

Initially, I proposed the idea of collecting can tabs at our school, because I remember collecting them for our Girl Scout Troop a few years ago. I researched online for the Ronald McDonald House Charities Pop Tab Collections. Once I acquired enough information to propose the idea to the school, I brought up the idea at our DoSomething Meeting. We got it approved from our adviser and school. We made flyers to hand out at our school. I picked up the can tab collection boxes from the Ronald McDonald House in New Brunswick. We put the collection boxes in various places throughout our school. The students collected can tabs throughout the school year and put them in the collection boxes. At the end of the school year, in June of 2011, I emptied the collection boxes into Ziploc bags and saved them to drop off at the Ronald McDonald House in New Brunswick. We're planning on continuing our collection efforts this school year.
