Service Trip to Washington, D.C.

The Problem

Poverty and homelessness in America. We hope to raise rural, Midwestern college students’ awareness of pressing socio-economic issues in diverse urban areas by reflecting on cultural dynamics, social justice issues, and providing hands-on assistance to charitable agencies devoted to alleviating the impact of poverty in these urban settings.

Plan of Action

In March, a group of 9 college students and 2 leaders will take a trip to our nation’s capitol to work with an organization that gives students the chance to not only experience the city and the cultures that make up Washington D.C., but to also understand its unique issues and problems that they face. This hands on experience will give us insight into urban poverty and what we can do in our rural community to help alleviate the needs of others.
