Animal-Friendly Alternatives to Leather

You probably see your favorite stores showcasing leather jackets or sexy suede shoes (yes, suede is leather). But don't feel like you have to dress like a cotton-clad Grandma to be animal-friendly. Here are some fabrics that allow you to shop without having to kill off Old McDonald's classic farm animals.

Vegan Leather

Still want that sleek look without all of the killing? Check labels clothing labels for vegan leathers such as Vegetan and Lorica, which are both made from microfibers. Birko-Flor and Birkibuc are other types made from acrylic and polyamide felt fibers.

It is usually made from polyvinyl chloride, polyester or cotton. The materials are coated with substances to give it that leathery look.

Not only is Hemp animal-free, but it is also great for the environment. It does not involve pesticides or fertilizers to make and it is super renewable.

Organic Cotton

Normal cotton is grown with gross pesticides and fertilizers that threaten people, wildlife and our environment. Organic cotton is a safer alternative for everyone.

This material is made from linen, hemp and mostly cotton (all animal-safe materials).
