New Year’s Resolution: Teach Your Grandparents Internet Basics

How about a New Year’s resolution you can actually keep?

Resolve to stay in better touch with your grandparents. Start by joining our Grandparents Gone Wired campaign. Teach your grandparents tech knowhow so you can stay connected in 2013 and beyond.

Use this guide to get started:

Google: Show your grandparents the infinite joy and wisdom of search engines. You could even play an NYE-themed trivia game. What does “auld lang syne” mean? How many crystals on are the New Year’s ball? When did Dick Clark start hosting New Year’s Rockin’ Eve? You and your family can guess, and Grandpa can Google the answers.

Facebook: The New Year is all about reflecting on the past and looking forward to the future. In other words, photos! And for your grandparents, lots and LOTS of photos. Show them how to upload and make albums online. Tell them it’s like a scrapbook everyone can see, all the time. And one that never gathers dust.

Skype: Not spending the New Year together? Skype in your grandparents for any or all of the festivities. The ball drop. The parade. The 24 hours of football. No matter where they are, you and Grandma can spend a relaxing New Year’s Day together.
